Globetrotter Guide: Perfection is Elusive

“The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry,” When “awry” happens, you can bend like a willow, or break like an oak.

After all the meticulous planning that goes into a journey, it’s completely natural to have the highest of expectations. You likely scheduled the trip during historically ideal weather, you thought through the finest of details, and spent many nights pouring over your itinerary to root out any weak links…

Weather might not cooperate for sailing to Capri, perhaps your flight is delayed to due a mechanical issue, there could be local labor strikes or political protests that complicate traversing a city…any number of things can go wrong, at home, or abroad.

While these scenarios are potential risks, thorough planning, travel insurance, patience and adaptability can help mitigate their impact and ensure a smoother luxury vacation experience.

Recently, a colleague’s clients arrived in Turks and Caicos. The area immediately below the clients’ rooms was an actual active construction site, complete with heavy machinery. Needless to say, the clients did not find the accommodations acceptable. The resort had not disclosed this situation in advance, which was unusual - these kinds of things are almost always communicated clearly. The client called the travel advisor, who in turn contacted the resort management. Instead of screaming in anger and frustration, the client kept their cool and waited for a resolution. They ended up in an oceanfront category that was several levels of upgrade higher than the room they booked and paid for…they were treated like royalty and were so grateful for the elevated accommodations.

While we cannot guarantee such remarkable outcomes with every client setback, maintaining composure and entrusting the process often leads to fortuitous discoveries, where unexpected deviations from the itinerary surpass the original plans.
