Globetrotter guide: Packing essentials

Don’t over think it. As long as you have your passport, necessary medications, your wallet, your phone, one seasonally appropriate outfit, a raincoat or umbrella, a light jacket and a comfortable pair of walking shoes, anything else you forget can likely be purchased at your destination.

Icing on the cake:

  • a copy of your passport and emergency contact information to leave in an inside zipper of your checked luggage. (Do not wait to do this the day you leave for your flight. I’ve had calls from clients FROM the airport devastated because they accidentally left their passports on the copier at home.)

  • clothing that can be mixed and matched to reduce the total number of clothes - include at least 1 really nice outfit for going out to dinner

  • undergarments

  • a second pair of walking shoes that fit differently - if your 1st set of shoes irritate your feet, it’s helpful to have an option

  • a 3-in-1 jacket with a fleece/sweater interior and exterior waterproof shell (unless you’re going somewhere extremely hot) - like LL Bean or Northface

  • bug repellant - (off makes wipes)

  • sunglasses and a hat

  • sunscreen

  • eye mask & ear plugs

  • toothbrush & toothpaste

  • compact power bank for phone

  • inexpensive accessories - do not travel with the family heirlooms

  • a luggage lock

  • antibacterial wet - wipes
